An extraordinary sideboard designed by Luciano Frigerio for Frigerio di Desio in the early 1980s.Entitled “Chiaro di Luna” (“Moonlight”), the piece is crafted from precious bird’s-eye maple—also known as “occhio di pernice”—renowned for its iridescent, luminous quality. It is stained in a rich brown hue and elegantly adorned with octagonal ebony line motifs and refined marquetry inlays.A truly majestic and imposing piece, this sideboard exemplifies the finest craftsmanship of its time. It features a large open compartment with a shelf, fully veneered in bird’s-eye maple, and three spacious drawers with fronts in the same veneer combined with acid-etched glass panels.The piece is in near-perfect condition, appearing almost as new with no notable flaws, as shown in the photographs. Visits to renowned workshops and relationships with key figures such as Gio Ponti and Franco Albini inspired him to transform the family business into a company with global reach. In 1973, he was honored with the title of Commendatore of the Italian Republic in recognition of his dedication to Italian craftsmanship.A pivotal moment in his career was the realization of his dream to create furniture as unique art pieces. With the help of a team of master artisans, he developed the “Sculptural Furniture in Solid Wood” and “Sculptural Beds in Cast Bronze” collections—one-of-a-kind alternatives to industrial production that fused high craftsmanship with precious materials and bold vision.Frigerio’s collaboration with prominent Italian architects and designers—including Franco Albini, Sergio Asti, and Paolo Portoghesi—solidified his place in the design world.
